The ED-HMI3630 unlocks autonomous mobile charging robots!

A company in Jiangsu recently launched an "autonomous driving-style" energy storage and charging robot. Its innovative "robot drives to electric vehicles" model breaks through the limitations of conventional fixed charging piles. Leveraging autonomous driving and mobile energy storage technologies, this solution addresses pain points including occupied parking bays, strained charging resources and inconvenient charging experiences.

The ED-HMI3630-156C, a 15.6-inch industrial touch all-in-one machine built on Raspberry Pi CM5, has been selected as the core Human-Machine Interface (HMI) terminal for this energy storage and charging robot. It undertakes critical functions such as on-site operation, status monitoring and scheduling interaction.

1. High-Performance Edge Interaction Hub

Powered by the robust computing capability of Raspberry Pi CM5 (Quad-core Cortex-A76), the HMI3630-156C runs customized Qt/Web interactive interfaces smoothly. It displays real-time data including the robot’s autonomous driving routes, battery SOC/SOH status, high-voltage fast charging progress and surrounding environment perception information, delivering millisecond-level responsive operation experience for on-site maintenance staff and end users.

2. Industrial-Grade Reliability for Harsh Environments

Energy storage and charging robots frequently operate in complex scenarios such as underground garages and open-air parking lots. The ED-HMI3630-156C features an IP65-rated front panel with water and dust resistance, effectively protecting against dust and high-pressure water spray washing. It supports wide-range 9V–36V DC power supply, perfectly adapting to voltage fluctuations of the robot’s on-board battery, and guarantees stable system operation during movement and vibration.

3. Seamless Connectivity & Ecosystem Compatibility

Built on the mature Raspberry Pi ecosystem, this all-in-one machine natively supports Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.0 and 4G/5G expansion modules. It maintains real-time heartbeat communication between the robot and cloud scheduling platform. Equipped with abundant GPIO, RS-485 and CAN ports, it directly interfaces with the robot chassis controller, LiDAR and high-voltage charging modules, acting as an internal communication hub of the vehicle.

Positioned for high-end intelligent equipment, this HMI adopts a 15.6-inch IPS wide-view high-definition display to deliver superior visibility.
