2 Change Background and Rationale

In the current memory market landscape, the production capacity structure of upstream NAND Flash wafers is undergoing adjustments, leading to a structural shortage of small-capacity eMMC. Concurrently, as memory chip manufacturing processes advance, the unit storage cost for larger capacities continues to decline.

As a result, Raspberry Pi has adjusted the pricing strategy for the CM5. According to the recently announced pricing plan, the CM5 with 32GB eMMC and 64GB eMMC are priced the same. Raspberry Pi officially recommends that users prioritize purchasing the 64GB eMMC version of the CM5.

Given that some of our industrial computer products are developed based on the Raspberry Pi CM5 platform, to actively respond to upstream strategies, optimize supply chain efficiency, and provide customers with more cost-effective product solutions, we have decided to consolidate and optimize the product preferences for related complete machine models.

3 Change Details

The product models affected by this change include: ED-IPC3100, ED-IPC3200, ED-IPC3630, ED-HMI3120 series, ED-HMI3630 series, ED-SBC3300, ED-PAC3100, ED-PAC3630, ED-AIC3000, and ED-AIC3100. For customers requiring a 32GB eMMC configuration for any of the above products, it is recommended to use the 64GB eMMC as a replacement. See the table below for specific configuration options.

4 Impact on Customers

  • Software Compatibility: Switching from 32GB eMMC to 64GB eMMC is fully software-compatible; no additional configuration is required.
  • Cost Advantage: This change constitutes a "same-price upgrade" and will not increase the customer's BOM cost.
  • Product Competitiveness: Adopting a larger storage solution helps enhance the market competitiveness of end products.
  • Supply Stability: As 64GB eMMC is a mainstream process node, its supply chain is more mature and stable, offering better lead time guarantees.

5 Recommendations for Customers

  • New Projects:
Effective from the date of this notice, the 32GB eMMC configuration is no longer recommended for new designs. All new project designs should preferentially use the 16GB eMMC or 64GB eMMC configuration. The EDATEC sales and technical support team will assist customers in evaluating configuration migration to ensure a seamless transition in both software and hardware compatibility.

  • Existing Projects:

    • EDATEC Commitment: EDATEC will continue to accept orders and guarantee supply until the official End-of-Life (EOL) announcement for the corresponding eMMC capacity is issued by Raspberry Pi.
    • Recommended Action: Based on their own product lifecycle planning, customers are advised to evaluate the feasibility of migrating projects currently using 32GB eMMC to 64GB eMMC. Software is fully compatible.
    • Migration Support: EDATEC provides free technical consultation and migration guidance services.
    • For existing projects that are already in production and still require the continued use of the 32GB eMMC specification (including EDATEC's standard products and customized products), please contact your EDATEC sales representative as soon as possible to confirm inventory and delivery schedules.
