Nano SIM Card Slot Compatibility with 0.8mm Thickness SIM Cards
1 Overview
This document introduces the background and scope of the Nano SIM card slot compatibility issue with 0.8mm thickness SIM cards in ED-IPC or ED-HMI products.
1.1 Background
Some users encounter 4G connection failures in ED-IPC or ED-HMI products with 4G functionality. After troubleshooting using the AT command AT+CPIN?
, it is confirmed that the issue stems from unrecognized Nano SIM cards.
In the example above, the ERROR return values 13
or 10
indicate that the Nano SIM card is not detected.
After communication with Nano SIM card suppliers, it was discovered that current Nano SIM cards on the market come in two thicknesses: 0.8mm (older version) and 0.67mm (newer version, widely used today). Our hardware design for the Nano SIM card slot is optimized for compatibility with 0.67mm thickness cards but does not fully support the older 0.8mm thickness cards, leading to recognition failures for the latter.
1.2 Scope of Applicability
The Nano SIM card slot compatibility issue applies to the following products shipped with 4G modules:

2 SIM Card Usage Recommendations and Product Improvements
This section provides guidelines for using Nano SIM cards in ED-IPC or ED-HMI products and outlines EDATEC’s measures to address the issue.
2.1 SIM Card Usage Recommendations
For existing users of ED-IPC or ED-HMI products with 4G functionality:
- If the SIM card is unrecognized, measure the thickness of the Nano SIM card.
- If the thickness is ~0.8mm, replace it with a 0.67mm thickness Nano SIM card.
- If the thickness is ~0.67mm, contact our technical support team.
For prospective buyers of ED-IPC or ED-HMI products with 4G functionality:
- Use 0.67mm thickness Nano SIM cards directly.
2.2 EDATEC Measures
To resolve the Nano SIM card slot compatibility issue with 0.8mm thickness SIM cards, EDATEC is actively working on hardware upgrades to ensure compatibility with 0.8mm thickness Nano SIM cards. This will be implemented in subsequent hardware revisions.
